The City of Reno is pleased to announce the hiring of the new Senior Engagement Coordinator under the Equity and Relations Office. The focus of this position is to serve the Reno senior community to increase engagement opportunities and meet the growing needs. Izabella Baumann recently obtained her Master of Social Work from the University of Nevada, Reno. As a Senior Engagement Coordinator, Baumann’s responsibilities encompass advocating on behalf of seniors, creating engagement activities and events, and undertaking community outreach to encourage collaboration with local senior agencies and stakeholders.
A few ongoing engagement initiatives involve technology classes, resource fairs, and local field trips. Additionally, Baumann will be working in partnership with Neighbor Network of Northern Nevada (N4) and Reno Food Systems to address transportation and food insecurity issues affecting the senior community.
Upcoming Events
The Reno Seniors EngAGED initiative facilitated by the Equity and Community Relations Office, comprises a series of engaging events that encompass resource fairs and informative guest speaker sessions for Seniors.
Senior Education: The City extends an invitation to senior residents for a presentation by the Aging and Disability Service Division (ADSD), where they can discover the array of services tailored to seniors.

RTC is Seeking Input from Seniors!
The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) is seeking input and feedback from senior residents regarding their Program Management Plan related to the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Section 5310 program. This federal funding improves mobility for seniors and individuals with disabilities by removing barriers to transportation services and expanding transportation options.
Comments can be submitted to Jennifer Meyers, Public Transportation Department at jmeyers@rtcwashoe.com and will be accepted through October 2, 2023.

Dementia Friendly Nature Walks – Every Thursday at 10am located at Idlewild Park for people living with Dementia and their family care partners. Walk with a supportive group and engage with the park and community!
Dementia Friendly Community Group Meetings – Every second Wednesday of the month at Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center at 10:30am – 12pm. Help support your community in becoming more respectful, supportive and inclusive with people living with dementia and their care partners.
